New generation warehouses in logistics maintain their competitive structure
Turkey, which is expected to be a logistics hub in the region in the long term, has started to become a center in Europe, Africa and Western Asia in terms of storage and transportation services with its infrastructure investments as well as integration towards technology and transportation modes.
The transformation experienced in the industry sector within the scope of Industry 4.0 in the recent period is also felt intensely in the logistics sector as Logistics 4.0. In the sector that has gone beyond traditional logistics services with developing technology and Logistics 4.0; autonomous vehicles, captainless ships, automated warehouses, and delivery with ‘drones’ have become a reality of the near future. With the effect of the expected increase in demand in this direction in the upcoming process, the leading companies of the Turkish logistics sector have accelerated their studies towards digitalization. According to sector representatives, while domestic logistics companies minimize disruptions in business processes caused by the human factor with technology-intensive new generation warehouses, they also maintain their competitive structure in the global arena.
With the developing technology, the activities carried out and services provided in the Turkish logistics sector are being reshaped. Today, smart systems are being adapted to the logistics sector and human intervention is being reduced. Thus, it is aimed to complete logistics processes with fewer errors.
Especially with the Internet of Things, systems can now communicate with each other without requiring any intermediaries. This situation directly affects the business processes of companies and causes changes in the structure of the stocking, storage and distribution network. With the technological transformation, an increase is expected in the number of warehouses where the human factor is reduced to a minimum level and where autonomous vehicles and robots work in the near future. Companies that reshape their investments towards digitalization are already preparing themselves for possible demands.
Stating that companies will differentiate themselves and become more competitive by fulfilling their demands in the supply process, sector representatives draw attention to the fact that the volume of services provided through these and similar processes will increase in the coming years. Based on this, sector representatives recommend that companies focus on work that will keep up with the process.
